API member Jenny, got in touch with us about her great weekend stay at the Caloundra API Holiday Home. She might have been short on time, but she certainly packed a lot into her three days at the units!
Our API Holiday short stay
Jenny writes:
“We recently discovered API has short stays available for their holiday homes, which suits us perfectly! Kings Beach, Caloundra appeals to us, as we love that it’s a family friendly location, with everything on the doorstep. Cafes, restaurants, trendy micro-breweries, and plenty of clean beaches to discover, and perfectly positioned for daytrips around the Sunshine Coast!
Here’s how we spent our three-day stay!
Friday
After checking in at 2.00pm, we decided to drop our bags and head straight down to Kings Beach, only a short stroll away.
When we first arrived at Caloundra, the kids noticed as we drove in, the beachside water play area. So naturally, this was our first activity. The water park has time-delayed fountains and a large salt-water ocean pool. After being in the car for a couple of hours, it was good to stretch our legs and let the kids burn of a bit of energy around the park. A swim in the pool had to wait for tomorrow, as it was still Spring, and the day was starting to cool off!
That night we decided to drop by the local surf club for dinner. ‘Mets on Kings’ is an excellent location to sit back and take in the beachside dining vibes.
Saturday
Waking up to a beautiful morning, we all decided to lace up our walking shoes and set out to discover the scenic coastal walk, located on our doorstep. This magnificent trail is 25 kilometers long and stretches from Golden Beach in the south, all the way to Mooloolaba, in the north. We only walked a small distance, around to Shelly Beach and back, however, next time we visit Caloundra, we have promised ourselves to complete the whole walk, with a bus or Uber waiting for us, for a ride back at the end!
Next on our weekend plan, was a late morning visit to the famous Eumundi Markets, only 40 minutes-drive away. Located in the beautiful town the markets are named famously after, Open every Saturday from 7am to 2pm, they are renowned for their locally made artisan goods and produce. A handy hit is to try and get there in the earlier part of the morning, to help avoid the crowds and the heat in the warmer months!
We all grabbed some lunch from one of the many food stalls. With everything on offer from Mexican to Japanese, ice cream to watermelon, we certainly had plenty of options to choose from. My favorite was the gourmet calamari, washed down by a cup of natural ‘cold’ sugar cane juice! We’ve been to these markets many times before, and I can also recommend a feed at the Eumundi pub, located directly across the road.
It was time to head back to Caloundra for that promised afternoon swim and some relaxing time on the beach, followed by a takeaway dinner back at the API unit.
Sunday
Another amazing morning on the Sunshine Coast, and what better way to enjoy being beachside, than breakfast at one of the many local cafes.
Why does bacon and eggs always taste better at a beach café? A friend once said it was the extra salt from the sea air! Maybe she was right!
Time to head home and head back to Brisbane, but not without another dip in the lovely salt-water ocean pool and a quick stroll on Kings beach!
Thanks API…we’ll be back soon!”
